Mushrooms for urban farms in the US

ตั้งหัวข้อ  raughter on Tue Feb 15, 2011 12:02 am

Hello everyone!

My name is Rafter. I am a PhD student in the US, researching simplified and low-cost methods of mushroom production for urban farmers.

I have been learning about mushrooms since 2003, and teaching about mushroom production since 2005. When I started I was only harvesting wild mushrooms, but now I am very excited about mushroom gardening and farming. It is good to see all the excellent activity associated with Anon Biotec. What an exciting website!

My community research partner is a wonderful urban farm called Growing Power, who grow fish and vegetables in aquaponics systems, and do large-scale composting and vermiculture. I am helping them integrate mushroom production with their systems.

Because they use greenhouses, they have "tropical" environments in the summer. So I am very interested in Macrocybe crassa (syn. Tricholoma crassum) for production here. Also, we are interested in paddy straw and giant paddy straw.

I can see that there is a lot of information available- unfortunately I don't speak Thai! If anyone is interested in sharing cultural information for these mushrooms, I would be very grateful - especially the techniques for growing M. crassa in vegetable beds. I'm also seeking cultures for these two mushrooms, which are very hard to find here. It appears that no one is growing M. crassa in the US, and no one is growing paddy straw commercially!

I hope this message finds you in good health.

Best,
Rafter

Hi Raughter,
Your expression thru our communication accesses ie Anonbiotec.com's forum, e mail ,Dr.Anon' e mail have reach us with special and cordial consideration by us especially Prof. Dr. Anon. We have granted and assisted a lot of research institutes via information and cultures exchange. You are also deserved to be with this program. Pertaining culturing Macrocybe crassum in Thailand, we used to give some hint to Dave (also from US) under this forum please do find out or if you have any query please feel free to let us know thru this forum. Concerning tropical mushroom cultures we do have a lot of strains but now we are under reculture most of our parent stock and it would be available soon. Thru our past experiences to send pure culture to US destination could be impossible owing to official restriction unless sending spore print or carry by man. In this case you have to advise us how to ok.
Raughter, now you are in our family member, we should work together jointly for the benefit of the public and to helping them for better food and life
Regards
Fez(Dr. Anon's son)

Hello Fez,

Thank you so much for your kind message and welcome.
I will be very happy to work with with your assistance, and provide
any assistance I can in return, to benefit the food and health of the public.

I will inquire at my university about the challenges of bringing cultures to the US,
and I will tell you what I find out. If it will be very difficult, then I'm sure that spore
prints will be adequate for this project.

Please feel free to contact me at "fergusn2" [--at--] illinois [--dot--] edu. (This
email address is disguised to prevent spam, but you can understand it easily.)

Thanks so much for your time and your work.

Best,
Rafter
